Places to see in Ventura California

Ventura has some of the best surfing in Southern California, especially Surfer's Point at Ventura County Fairgrounds. Downtown Ventura is home to the Mission San Buenaventura, museums, galleries, dining, and shopping. Primary areas of activity include California Street and Main Street between Ventura Avenue and Fir Street. Located in downtown is the historic Ortega Adobe, home to the Ortega family, now famous for their chile products.

Mission San Buenaventura

Ventura County Fairgrounds at Seaside Park is owned by the State of California and administered by the 31st District Agricultural Association under the direction of the Division of Fairs and Expositions, Department of Food and Agriculture. A nine member Board of Directors, appointed by the Governor, oversees the Association. The 31st DAA is a self-supporting entity, receiving no tax dollars.

San Buenaventura Mission was foreshadowed well over two centuries ago on the Spanish isle of Mallorca, when a devout Franciscan priest earnestly prayed that he might be permitted to forsake his comfortable circumstances to take up the Lord’s work among the aborigines in the New World. The hoped-for answer to his prayers came on Palm Sunday, March 30, 1749.

Buenaventura Golf Course

Ortega Adobe Historic Residence - This charming little adobe is so easy to miss, as it is far away from many of the other historical buildings.  Surrounded by nightclubs, gas stations and strip malls, it is easy to over look its humble facade. - Admission is free

Buenaventura Golf Course - After a $6.5 million dollar renovation, including complete re-routing of the golf course and new playing surfaces, Buenaventura Golf Course opened in March of 2005. With large bent grass greens, coupled with emerald green rye grass fairways, Buenaventura is one of the finest municipal courses in the Southland.

Ventura Pier
Ventura Lodging

Ventura Pier - Originally built in 1872, the pier once served steamships and was a vital mode of transportation in and out of Ventura.  In the early days, getting in and out of this harbor town was a challenge.  With the advent of the pier and the visiting steamships, the areas rich and abundant produce could make it off to market.

Ventura, the gateway to the Channel Islands National Park, is a classic Southern California beach town offering the services and amenities that make every visit a memorable experience. Located an easy one-hour drive north of Los Angeles, Ventura offers you more to see and do on your next vacation or weekend getaway.
