Golden Gate Bridge
If walking or bicycling across the Golden Gate Bridge is on your list of things to do in San Francisco, make sure you come during the day because the sidewalks are not open after dark. Don’t plan on bringing a pet or rollerblading either, it is not permitted on the bridge.
If you just want to get a good view of the Golden Gate Bridge, you can go to the Fort Point overlook or stroll through the gardens to get some spectacular views of it.
There is a statue of the Chief Engineer, Joseph Strauss, to remind everyone of his determination while this bridge was being built. The Strauss Statue area provides a great opportunity to view the gardens full of beautiful flowers and hedges along the brick walkways.
For those of you who want a souvenir of the Golden Gate Bridge, visit the Roundhouse behind the Strauss Statue. This gift shop will have a nice variety of souvenirs to remind you of your trip to San Francisco. You will also learn some history behind the bridge while you are visiting the Roundhouse.
If you get hungry while you are visiting the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, you can always stop in at the Bridge Cage on the southeast side of the bridge. They will have something that everyone will enjoy snacking on and a nice refreshing beverage to quench your thirst.
If you have never seen the Golden Gate Bridge and are going to be in the San Francisco, California area, make sure you plan a daytrip to go and see what all the bridge has to offer. A good tip for anyone traveling across the bridge is to have correct change ready as this is a toll bridge. |
