Baker Beach in San Francisco, California
Many people say that Baker Beach is the nicest beach in San Francisco and possibly in Northern California as well.The views are magnificent no matter what direction you are looking. Being ground level with the Golden Gate Bridge gives a great panoramic view of this magnificent bridge. The Marin Headlands provides Baker Beach goers another beautiful view. If you look to the waters of the Pacific Ocean you can often see a big ship and sailboats passing by. Dolphin sightings are also becoming more and more common, not to mention the other animals of nature that find refuge in Baker Beach.
If you are wanting to swim, this probably isn’t the best beach for you. It’s a great place to get wet in the waves coming in on the sand, but it’s really rocky and the waters are rough making swimming a challenge for even the best swimmers.
Sunbathing, playing volleyball in the sand, barbequing, picnicking, and hiking on the trails are a favorite with many people who frequent Baker Beach in San Francisco.
On the far north part of the San Francisco peninsula you will find an area that is designated as clothing optional. This makes it a nude beach in Northern California that many people come to feel free and really get in touch with nature while in their birthday suits. It’s an isolated area so don’t be afraid to bring your kids to the other parts of Baker Beach.
Baker Beach is located off of Gibson Road. Watch carefully for the parking signs as they will sneak up on you and many travelers to this area report missing the parking area.
