Cabrillo National Monument
The Cabrillo National Monument is located at 1800 Cabrillo Memorial Drive, San Diego, California, 92106-3601. It is listed as a National Park with the National Park Service.
The Cabrillo National Monument is open each and every day of the year from 9am to 5pm. Visitors to the park must leave by 5, no exceptions, they close the gates.
In the Visitor Center you can see exhibits and a movie that takes a look at the history of Cabrillo. It’s a great learning experience for anyone who likes to learn about American History.
Make sure you don’t leave without walking to the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. It has been restored to the way it was in the 1880s so that people can see what life was like for the light keeper during that time.
There is also a walking tour that is self-guided that starts off near the Lighthouse. It’s two miles long and you will see some nice views of the harbor and San Diego.
During January and February, many people come here to catch a glimpse of the whales in the Pacific Ocean at the Whale Overlook. Even if you can’t see a whale, the views of the ocean and the New Point Loma Lighthouse are gorgeous.
After you have explored everything you can on foot, hop into the car and drive to the west side of the park. This is a great place for bird watchers. It’s such a beautiful coastal area that everyone who comes here should make sure to see it before leaving the Cabrillo National Monument.
