California State Railroad Museum
This is a museum for people of all ages. Everyone will be excited to see the exhibits in the California State Railroad Museum. There are 21 restored locomotives inside the main building itself and all of them have been meticulously restored for your viewing pleasure.
Understanding how the railroads have shaped they unique culture of California and other western states can be seen through the numerous exhibits on display. Railroads not only shaped the culture, they also changed people’s lives and the economy. You will learn how while visiting this great museum.
This museum is a must see if you are in the area. It’s relatively cheap as far as tourist attractions in California go, only $9.00 with discounts for children under the age of 17. Plan on parking in the large public garage located at the I Street entrance to Old Sacramento because the street parking is only available for 90 minutes at a time and there is no way you can see everything at the Railroad Museum in that amount of time. Make a whole day trip out of the museum and you will be glad you did. Where else can you be entertained and educated for a whole day for only $9? There are several different places to eat while you are there as well. No need to try and find a restaurant to feed the family at when there are so many great choices inside the museum. The California State Railroad Museum is located at the corner of Second And I Streets in Old Sacramento. They are open every day from 10:00am until 5:00pm except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. |
