California State Indian Museum
Directions from San Francisco:
Take I-80 to the Business 80/Highway 50 east exit. Then take the Business 80 exit towards Reno until you come to the N Street exit. Go straight on 30th Street until you go under the freeway and turn left at L Street. Keep going until you come to 26th Street. The California State Indian Museum is located at 26th and K Streets.
It’s not an expensive museum to visit, the cost of admission is only $3 for adults and $2 for children age 5+. Kids under 5 are free of charge. They don’t take credit cards so make sure you have cash ready before you get there. The Indian Museum is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
Something else about the California State Indian Museum you should know is that they don’t allow you to take pictures. Just leave your cameras in the car.
They are planning on transitioning into the California Indian Heritage Center which will be located in West Sacramento along the Sacramento River. They feel this is a more proper location to display Indian exhibits because of the significance of the natural resources to the American Indians.
