Page Museum - La Brea Tar Pits

The La Brea Tar Pits are a famous cluster of tar pits in Los Angeles, California. Tar seeps up from the ground and has for tens of thousands of years. This tar trapped many animals and then preserved their bones. The Page Museum is dedicated to researching the area and displaying what they’ve learned for people to see and learn. You can walk around Hancock Park and see many different life-size models of prehistoric animals alongside the tar pits.

There are more than 100 pits in the Park but only one of them is still being excavated by paleontologists with the help of researchers and volunteers. Fossils are being found in other areas near the Park as well and being transported to the museum for further research.
