Echo Park - Los Angeles, California
Spend the day in Echo Park to see what sets it apart from the other metropolis areas of Los Angeles. This neighborhood is proud of it’s historic past and work hard trying to preserve it.
This is a place you don’t want to just drive though. You will want to plan a whole day trip to Echo Park so that you can see many of the landmarks and historic places. Take the family on a walking tour to really get an idea of what Echo Park has to offer.
There are 2 different walking tours available. One takes off everyday from the Echo Park Boathouse at 10 am and lasts about 2 hours. The other is an Echo Park Stairways tour that leaves from the Elementary School at 10 am as well. This one is not for the weak. You will be climbing stairs and several steep hills. Neither tour includes the inside of any historic buildings, just a mention as to what they are from the outside.
The Echo Park Historical Society requests a $5 donation for each person over the age of 12. They are small walking groups of 20 people or less. You have to call ahead for reservations to 323-860-8874. You just leave a message with your name and number of people coming on what day and a telephone number where you can be reached for a confirmation call.
Echo Park truly is a piece of California history that you shouldn’t miss out on if you are going to be in the Los Angeles area. |
