California Day Trips

Death Valley National Park

Death Valley is the lowest spot in the United States and all of North America. It’s also the hottest and driest place as well. It’s a beautiful place to bring the family on vacation where you can see many things you wouldn’t see anywhere else. The park is open all year long so you can experience it for yourself when you are in the area. You can camp, hike, backpacking, backcountry camping, biking and bird watching are among some of the best things to do in this area.

Death Valley National Park doesn’t sound like the kind of place you would want to visit, but it is actually a very beautiful place in California. You can see the snow capped mountains in the background and sand dunes that go on forever. The many different desert colors make it one of the best places to how different levels of the earth have formed over the years. There is over 3 million acres of wilderness here for you and your family to enjoy.

Over 7000 acres of the Park was designated as home of the Timbisha Shoshone tribe in the year 2000. The park is also home to many animals that you might not see anywhere else in the United States because they have adapted to live in the harsh desert area of Death Valley.

There are over 50 plants in the Death Valley National Park that you won’t find anywhere else in the world. Altogether, Death Valley is home to over 1000 different plants.

The park has guided tours on a regular basis. They currently have a Living History Tour, an Underground Tour, and a tour of the Lower Vine Ranch.

You can get a pass for your car that will allow you to come and go as you please for 7 days at a cost of $20. It’s only $10 if you enter the park on foot or on a bicycle.

There are many choices for hotel accommodations in the area as well. You can choose to stay in or out of the park and should have no trouble locating lodging while you are there. You can even camp in the Death Valley National Park in designated areas, or in the backcountry of the park with some limits on where you can camp.
